Tuck defines leadership as “inspiring others to strive and enabling them to accomplish great things.” We believe great things and great leadership can be accomplished in pursuit of business and societal goals. Describe a time when you exercised such leadership. Discuss the challenges you faced and the results you achieved. What characteristics helped you to be effective, and what areas do you feel you need to develop in order to be a better leader? An embellished example of what not to do follows: “My boss criticized my laziness….” By displaying laziness, you are undermining your candidacy, because Tuck tries to recruit highly motivated students. Another misguided approach would be to offer a false critique â€" a negative that is actually a positive: “My boss told me that I work too hard and need to relax and take a vacation; it was hard to hear that…” These answers are transparent and only annoy the Admissions Committees. When dealing with a critique of your abilities or character, it is important to approach the matter at hand in a straightforward way. The emphasis should be on accepting and remedying the problem. Clearly, with the word “constructive” in the question, you are asked to identify a time when someone took care and sought to help you improve; you need to show that you responded with the effort and thought necessary to “correct” the problem. 4. Tuck seeks candidates of various backgrounds who can bring new perspectives to our community. How will your unique personal history, values, and/or life experiences contribute to the culture at Tuck? Essay four is quite broad; within “personal history, values, and/or life experiences,” there is a great deal of range. Its that little word ne, technically called a pronominal particle. Much like reflexive, indirect, and direct object pronouns, its the kind of multifaceted little thing that sneaks in here and there and vexes even the most assiduous student of the Italian language. Fear not: Once its purpose is made clear to you, you will master it. Like all pronouns, it is simply there to make it possible for us to have a conversation without constantly repeating what it is that we are talking about. Ne as the Unspoken In English, this is accomplished by inference or through similar pronouns. Take this little dialogue: Did you tell your brother about the apples? Yes, we talked about them (the apples) yesterday. Why did you talk about it (them, the apples)? Because he wanted to talk (about the apples). Does he want any [apples]? He wants seven (apples). Imagine if you had to repeat those apples every time. In Italian, you use ne in their place: Hai parlato con tuo fratello delle mele? Sà ¬, ne abbiamo parlato ieri. Perchà © ne avete parlato? Perchà © ne voleva parlare. E ne vuole, di mele? Ne vuole sette. Ne as About or Of The first thing ne means is about something or of something—something we are talking about and we dont want to repeat. Voglio andare a vedere un film. Che ne pensi? I want to go see a movie. What do you think about that?Ieri ho visto Michele. Poi te ne parlo. Yesterday I saw Michele. Partitive The other use of ne is as a quantitative partitive particle—a pronoun used when referring to a part of something we are talking about. It means some of, any, or none of whatever we are talking about. Che belle fragole. Me ne dai due? What beautiful strawberries! Would you give me two (of them)?Ho bisogno di mele. Ne prendo cinque. Where to Put Ne in a Sentence Whether serving as a partitive particle or meaning about something, ne goes before the conjugated verb. For example: Parliamo di Mario. We talk about Mario. → Ne parliamo. We talk about him.Avete molti amici. You have many friends. → Ne avete molti. You have many (of them).Ho due fratelli. I have two brothers.  Ã¢â€ â€™ Ne ho due. I have two (of them).Quanti bambini ci sono? How many children are there? → Ce ne sono quattordici. There are fourteen (of them).Hai del caffà ¨? Do you have some coffee? → Sà ¬, ne ho. - Yes, I have (some of it).Voglio che mi parli di Marco. I want you to tell me about Marco. → Te ne parlo domani. I will tell you (about him) tomorrow. After the Verb If you are using ne with an infinitive or an imperative verb mode, the ne is attached to the verb, as with other pronouns or pronominal particles. (In those constructions those verbs are called pronominal verbs: some use ne; some use reflexive-sounding little particles and even indirect object pronouns or both.) In these cases, ne means the same things explained above. Here are some examples in the infinitive: Andarsene: To leave (take oneself) (from somewhere)Averne abbastanza: To have enough (of something)Fregarsene: To not care (about something); to shrug (something) offNon poterne pià ¹: To not be able to endure (something) anymore. The other rules of the infinitive apply as always. So, with auxiliary verbs, for example: Voglio andarmene OR me ne voglio andare. The novel is known as an adventure fiction; it is known as an adventure fiction because it is based on an adventure by London, but is put into a fictional reading. This novel is told about a dog and his life struggles, but it is based on an adventure taken by London. This novel is important to us because it gives us an insight on how important it is to fight for what you want, and defend your place in life. The theme of this novel is to work for your wants and needs. This novel takes place in the middle of a very harsh winter. It is occurring in the outdoors on a trip to Dawson. The most important factor about Dave is his death. You can tell that being a sled dog is important when Dave continued to pull while sick. Billee and Joe paid their lives to the frozen north. Billee was torn to pieces by Spitz and Joe falls through the ice and freezes to death. Buck had to beat Spitz physically and Sol-leks intimately. I do not see myself as an associate with Hal. Hal is very violent, impatient, and foolish. Charles and Hal are pretty much the same except Charles is more passive than Hal. Mercedes is the only female character in the story and in my opinion is very pampered. Buck was stolen from his home in California and forced into dog slavery. T his mean that Buck must now pull a heavy sled for thousands of miles across the country to get to the destination of the leader of the dog pack, Dawson. Buck was very shy at the beginning because he had never done anything in that state of work before. Buck was beginning to have dreams about the primitive. Buck became involved in a rivalry between him and the lead dog Spitz. Buck was able to defeat Spitz and become lead sled dog for the pac. Buck and Thornton became very connected. They were so close that they took and adventure together. Buck is faced with a dilemma of whether to stay with Thornton or kill things. Buck was deciding whether to be wild or tame. Even though some Americans believe allowing gay couples to marry is against religious beliefs, other people feel that marriage should be allowed to everyone because there is no reason for sex discrimination. Supporters of same-sex marriage feel that homosexual marriage has a positive effect on parenting and promotes equality. To demonstrate, the supporters have been searching for facts to bolster the argument that same-sex couples are good at parenting in spite of the belief of some that children brought up by homosexual couples are psychologically damaged. Supporting same-sex parents, Marianne Mollmann asserts that â€Å"fortunately, it is increasing recognized that it is not exposure to diversity but rather to bigotry and prejudice that is damaging to kids. † Often, people think that kids are psychologically damaged when they are brought up by LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) people, but kids are damaged when people bully them or treat them badly because they have same-sex parents. But same-sex people are good at parenting. Although we would think that kids that have homosexual parents would not adjust to society, in fact, investigations reveal that kids with homosexual parents adjust to society as well as children that have heterosexual parents. They also have good adjustment during childhood. For healthy development it is essential to have good relationship between the parents and the child or children and modeling a strong relationship between the parents (Mollman). Truly, if the parents of a kid have a good relationship with their child and a good relationship between the parents themselves, the kid will be well-adapted, the same is for same-sex couples. If the kid is growing up with a family that has a good relationship, the kid will be as well-adjusted as the kid that is growing up with the straight family that has good relationship. In fact they will be better adjusted than the children that have straight parents but that are cruel and abusive. Even though somepeople say that same-sex couples should not be allowed to adopt because they are a threat for the kids, â€Å"it seems absurd to even suggest that it would be more beneficial for a child to be raised in an abusive home over that of a loving same-sex couple† ( Kellard). When a kid is raised in an offensive, cruel or abusive family the child can develop psychological problems. Some people think that straight couples are better at parenting than same-sex couples, but the key is to be lovely and kind with kids, and not cruel, offensive or abusive. Moreover, proponents of same-sex wedlock maintain that homosexual people should not be allowed to marry because everyone should have the same rights. Even though people think that homosexuals want to marry just because they are not allowed to, a huge majority of homosexual people, lesbians and gay couples, desire they could have the liberty to marry the person they want for the same random reasons as heterosexual people (Wolfson). There are mix of reasons why nongay people want to marry, and similarly same-sex couples want the right to marry the person they choose. They should have the same rights as everyone. Even more, same sex couples have the same obligations with society â€Å"homosexuals and lesbians are tax-paying, law abiding citizens and deserve the same rights and legal protection as every other citizens of the United States† (Mollman). Homosexual people, like straight people, have to pay taxes and to obey the law; otherwise they would be sent to jail. Since they follow the same rules, homosexuals should have the right to marry as nongay people. Same-sex marriage should also be allowed, because â€Å"there is no good reason for sex discrimination in civil marriage, just as there was no good reason for race discrimination in civil marriage a generation ago(Kellard ). Similar to race discrimination, when colored people were discriminated, just because their skin color, and there was no good reason for bigotry. Now homosexuals are confronting almost the same type of discrimination, because there is no reason why should this be happening. Although advocates of same-sex marriage argue that homosexual marriage boost good parenting and equality, it is also true that same-sex marriage is a threat to religious principles and social behavior. Opponents to same-sex marriage feel like homosexual marriage is a threat for religion and that this would damage our society. In fact if same-sex marriage is approved, this would cause that people now are going to see marriage like such a little thing that they wouldn’t want to marry and marriage will lose the importance that it used to have. Truly, marriage is different now from what it used to be years ago, and we need to contest to retake the dignity, seriousness and relevance that marriage used to have, for our people marriage has lost the sparkle that years ago used to have (Dolan). Marriage used to be a crucial decision for man and woman, because this would change their lives completely, and now with same-sex marriage people don’t want to take this as serious and important as it used to be. In addition, opponents of same-sex marriage argue that homosexual unions will affect our society and the way our society used to be. In fact, gay marriage is changing the way people are and acts, â€Å"homosexual ‘marriage’ hand over society just like a hammer with the force of law. And, it is only just began† (Comenker). This have just started to be accepted and already is changing our society, like the way gay couples go around holding hands and kissing in front of everybody, like these were the more normal things, even when kids are around. Certainly, parents have to decide the way their kids are going to be taught, â€Å"think about that: because same-sex marriage is ‘legal’ a federal judge has ruled that the schools now have a duty to portray homosexual relationships as normal to children, despite what parents think or believe† (â€Å"Gay families are changing society for the Worse†). Now because gay marriage is approved kids see homosexual couples dating, kissing or holding hands and parents cannot do anything, or say anything about it because now same-sex marriage is law approved even if the parents approvethis or not. In fact, now with homosexual marriage approved in some states, homosexuals feel like this is the most normal thing and that they should celebrate, like the book they are giving to kids without parents’ permission just because homosexual marriage is legal. Although approving people think homosexual marriage is against religious view, other people believe that marriage should be a right for everyone because there is no reason for sex discrimination. Homosexual couples should be allowed to marry because truly, there is no good reason for sex discrimination and everyone should have the same rights no matter sex, color, religion, race or ethnicity, but homosexuals should have some restrictions, like to not promote this kind of relationship, like they should not give books with homosexual obscenities or giving papers with obscene images to schools or to people in general. They should keep this to themselves.
